Why does the silicone mold deform?

Silicone is favored increasingly by the people because of its good environmental performance. Silicone rubber with features of high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, good operation, resistance to tear, high degree of simulation and finesse is to produce silicone molds for a variety of resin crafts, candle crafts, gypsum, cement, culture stone, sandstone relief, large-scale sculpture, artifacts copied, copying figures, handmade soaps, toys, gifts and so on. But many people react that the silicone mold is quickly deformed. So what causes this phenomenon? "Deformation" is a common and troubling problem in the field of mold, which is often difficult to avoid because of the limitation of materials and technology. But we can control the deformation within the range of allowable error through many changes in details. Next, I will briefly introduce to you why does the silicone mold deform and how should we deal with this problem.   Firstly, the deformation of silicone mold has a great relationship with the hardness of silicone rubber chose by customers. For example, someone chose the soft silicone with the hardness of only a dozen or two dozen shore A to make mold for bulky products which is more than one meter tall. He found that the mold is softened and deformed after retiring from the master pattern. In fact, this situation can be completely avoided. So, the hardness of the silicone should be consistent to the size of the products. For the small size products with detailed patterns, the soft silicone can be applicable which the shore A should be 15-20 for easy demoulding and not damage of the patterns. Other wise harder silicone should be needed for large size products, such as products with size 50cm will need harder silicone with 40-50 shore A, then no-deformation. If large products but features detailed patterns then 30 shore A silicone will be workable. Silicone rubber itself is not better or worse, only suitable or unsuitable. We should use proper hardness to make molds to avoid deformation of the silicone mold. We can also protect the silicone mold from deformation by making an outer mold. One is to enclose the mold by a plastic plate or wooden plate, then pour into the liquid plaster to fill the mold frame. Another is brushing or coating  a layer of resin and  then pasting a fiber glass, then repeat brushing and pasting tow to three times, then a outer mold will be finished.     The second reason for deformation may be that the shell lining of silicone mold is not enough accurate or you don't put the soft silicone mold into hard liner mediator to preserve after the mold being used every time. Then, the silicone mold stands the pressure of deformation for a long time in the process. In addition, it can be due to the reason of not completely cured. Although you can demould after 4 hours and the silicone mold can be used in production after 8 hours, it's better for 24 hours or a week in order to maximize each performance of products. The final reason may be that you use the poor quality silicone rubber or shrinkage rate of silicone is too high or it contains too much filler to lower the cost of silicone mold. Shrinkage rate of high-grade mold rubber is 0.1%, the average is about 3%. The worse quality the silicone rubber, the higher rate its shrinkage.
