Pad printing silicone pads are the core consumable in pad printing. Choose the right silicone and you get great print quality, long pad life, and low overall cost. Step 1: Decide the System — Condensation Cure or Addition Cure?
 
This is the most fundamental decision. Simple guidelines:
• Standard products, no special ESD or precision requirements → Condensation cure (affordable, easy to use, great value)
• Precision electronics / semiconductors, anti-static needed → Addition cure anti-static (HY-933)
• High-end cosmetics / precision medical, ultra-high precision → Addition cure high precision (HY-928)
 
The core difference is the curing mechanism: condensation cure uses tin catalyst and is budget-friendly; addition cure uses platinum catalyst for better performance at a higher price.
 
Step 2: Choose Hardness — Soft or Hard?
 
The principle is simple:
• Curved / irregular surfaces → Softer (Shore A 10-15°) for better conformity
• Flat surfaces / fine patterns → Harder (Shore A 20-25°) for sharper detail
• Not sure → Medium (Shore A 15-20°) — the most versatile choice
 
Pro tip: Hardness can be adjusted with silicone oil, but too much reduces tear strength and wear resistance. Keep it under 5%.
 
Step 3: Consider Production Volume
 
• Small batch, multi-variety production: General purpose or fast cure grade (HY-902 or HY-916)
• High volume, continuous production: Wear resistant grade (HY-912) — slightly higher unit price but much longer service life = lower overall cost
 
Step 4: Check Your Timeline — How Urgent Is It?
 
• Regular production, no rush: Standard models are fine — make them, use them
• Frequent rush orders / tight deadlines: Fast cure grade (HY-916) — ready in 4-6 hours, same-day production
 
Step 5: Calculate Total Cost — Not Just Unit Price
 
Many people choose silicone based only on unit price — this is a mistake. You should calculate total cost:
Total Cost = Silicone Price × Amount ÷ Pad Life × (1 + Defect Rate)
 
Cheaper but less durable silicone can actually cost more overall. Always consider price, service life, and print yield together.
