Food-Contact Silicone Products Face Compliance Test

Keywords: Food-Contact Silicone, GB 4806.16-2025, Compliance Standards, Mandatory Threshold, Formula Upgrade

Core Summary: With only 5 months left before the mandatory implementation of the National Food Safety Standard for Silicone Materials and Products in Contact with Food (GB 4806.16-2025) on September 2, domestic food-contact silicone enterprises are accelerating product formula upgrading and compliance testing, and the industry is facing a new round of reshuffling.
This standard is the first time that food-contact silicone has been independently legislated separately from rubber standards in China. It sets 9 exclusive limit indicators for silicone products, including the total specific migration of dimethylcyclosiloxanes (D4~D7) ≤10 mg/kg, volatile matter ≤0.5%, peroxide value ≤5 mmol/kg, etc. At the same time, it introduces the "polar food simulant 95% ethanol + n-heptane dual system" detection method, solving the evaluation blind spot of silicone in high-oil contact scenarios[superscript:5][superscript:6].
At present, mainstream domestic food-contact silicone enterprises have launched compliance sprint work, focusing on investigating the content of D4~D7 cyclic siloxane in product formulas, the compliance of crosslinking agents, and harmful impurities in color masters. A leading maternal and infant enterprise has reduced the migration of D4~D7 from 18 mg/kg to 4 mg/kg by adopting a new formula of "low cyclic gum (≤200 ppm) + platinum vulcanization", completing product compliance upgrading in advance and obtaining official test qualification reports. Market supervision departments revealed that a special inspection of silicone products will be organized in the fourth quarter of 2026, and the random inspection ratio of e-commerce, maternal and infant stores and other channels will be increased from 2% to 6%. Unqualified products will face severe penalties such as confiscation, fines and removal from shelves
